3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE ADVANCEMENT OF MATERIALS AND NANOTECHNOLOGY 2013 ICAMN III 2013
Dear Y.Bhg. Dato' / Prof. / Dr. / Sir and Madam,
School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) will be organising a 3-day conference and workshop title "International Conference on the Advancement of Materials and Nanotechnology 2013 (ICAMN III 2013) – Next Generation of Sustainable Materials".
The conference will be held from 19 to 21 November 2013 at Park Royal Hotel, Penang, Malaysia.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Academicians, scientists, researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs, policy makers and students working in advanced materials and green technology.
OBJECTIVE
To provide an efficient and effective way to share latest research and innovation between participants on the advancement of materials engineering and science especially on materials for sustainable development and materials for green technology.
The ICAMN II will be divided into six (6) symposiums and workshops, namely: § Green and sustainable materials. § Electrochemical and materials for alternative energy production. § Nanomaterials. § Polymeric materials and composites. § Biomaterials/medical and pharmaceutical materials and technology. § Structural materials.
Symposium A : GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS Chairman : Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Cheong Kuan Yew – Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia Co-Chairman : Prof. Lung-Chien Chen – National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan
Shortage of energy and depletion of resources are the two main global issues that require much attention and need short and long term resolution to ensure a sustainable future. Therefore, the aim of this symposium is to focus on synthesis, production, characterization, and application of green and sustainable materials; which encompasses both organic and inorganic materials. Topics cover theoretical and computer simulation to experimental proof of concept until mass production of the materials use in semiconductor, electronic, optoelectronic, polytronic, sensor and actuator, memory applications.
Symposium B : NANOMATERIALS Chairman : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zainovia Lockman – Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia Co-chairman : Prof. Atsunori Matsuda – Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan
Nanomaterials, notable for their extremely small feature size have potential for wide range of applications. They can be metals, alloys, ceramics, carbon, semiconductors, polymers or composite. They are developed to exhibit novel characteristics (such as increased chemical reactivity, sensitivity, better thermal and electrical conductivity or higher hardness or strength) compared to the same material but in bulk size. This symposium would address many aspects of nanomaterials: fundamental understanding on the production of nanomaterials including chemical and physical processes to synthesize 0-dimensional (nanoparticles, core-shell, nanopowders), 1-dimensional (nanotubes, nanowires, nanorods), 2-dimensional (thin film, coating, laminates) and 3-dimensional (nanoporous, mesoporous, self-assembled) and on the development and application of measurement and characterization techniques, reference materials, and standards for the production of nanomaterials. This symposium also addresses on the applications of the nanomaterials produced and perhaps issues related to the safety of this class of materials.
Symposium C : STRUCTURAL MATERIALS Chairman : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zuhailawati Hussain – Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia Co-chairman : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Astuty Amrin – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
Structural materials, in particular metals and ceramic based materials, are essential for our secure, safe and affluent living as they support the basis of our society. Structural materials application depends on the knowledge of materials and their properties, in order to understand how different materials support and resist loads. The main requirements of modern structural materials are the load-carrying capacity (safety), the fitness for production, and economy. Also the structural materials should take full responsibility for the future and contribute to overcome the issues of the environment, energy and resources since their consumption and economic scale are far more predominant than those of other materials. Therefore, ICAMN 2013 offers materials researchers the opportunity to discuss and exchange information with the frontiers in their fields addressing mechanical performance, environmental sensitivity and in-service performance of metals and ceramics. Topics related to structural materials covers understanding structure, properties, processing and performance of metals and ceramics.
Submissions are encouraged in topic areas that include but not limited to: · Synthesis and development of metals and ceramics · Forming technologies and processing innovations · Corrosion and surface modification · Joining technology · Testing, advanced characterization and failure analysis · Recycling and sustainability

Symposium E : POLYMERIC MATERIALS AND COMPOSITES Chairman : Prof. Dr. Ir. Mariatti Jaafar Co-chairman : Prof. Peng-Cheng Ma - Chinese Academy of Sciences : Assoc. Prof Azura A. Rashid - Universiti Sains Malaysia
This symposium will focus on polymeric materials (thermoplastic, thermoset, rubber and latex) and composite materials (metal, ceramic and polymer-based composites) with unique functional properties. Innovative concepts on the use of nano-scale reinforcements (carbon nanotubes, graphene sheets, clay nanoparticles, cellulose nanocrystals, etc) in structural composites will also be discussed. Topics on the properties of such materials for a wide variety of applications including electronic, automotive, construction, aerospace, aviation, environmental remediation, recreation and sporting goods light are welcomed. Selected papers presented in this symposium will be published in a special issue of International Journal of Automotive & Mechanical Engineering (IJAME) (SCOPUS cited).
